Reared specimen. OKLAHOMA: Osage Co., Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, 3.vi.2017, em. 9.vii.2017, M.W. Palmer, ex Tripsacum dactyloides, # CSE3936 (1 adult, MLBM) .

Host. Poaceae: Tripsacum dactyloides (L.) L.

Biology. In the single preserved mine, the egg is deposited in an excavation in the upper leaf surface, adjacent to the margin, and is not covered with any foreign substance. The mine extends for 64 mm along the leaf margin, mostly toward the leaf apex but also extending 20 mm toward the leaf base from the egg, and is up to 5 mm wide. Frass is scattered throughout the mine in irregular particles.

Notes. Riley & Enns (1982) reported taking adults, larvae, and pupae of Anisostena kansana from blotch mines in leaves of Tripsacum dactyloides in Missouri in July, but no further details have been available until now.
