Cuspidella gigantea Stechow, 1923
Stechow (1923d), J. Coll. Sci. Univ. Tokyo. 44, p. 8-9.
ZSM 20001061, 20043714 - 20043716 micro slides with colony pieces growing on Clytia gracilis (Sars), on the crab Halimus diacanthus (De Haan), Japan, Sagami Bay, leg. F. Doflein expedition, 1904.
Notes: A more detailed redescription based on the type material is given in Stechow (1923c, p. 131-132, fig S). Stechow (1932, p. 86-87) later changed the genus name to Laodicea and overwrote Cuspidella on the label. He also changed the identification of the substratum hydrozoan from Gonothyraea sp. to Clytia gracilis (Sars.) . The label of the slides also says Croatella corrugata (Thornely) which occurs together with Cuspidella gigantea . None of the Halimus diacanthus (De Haan) crabs of the crustacean collection perfectly matches the collection data of the hydrozoan micro slides, so the substratum crab probably has been lost.
