Mucor crustaceus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1186. 1753.
"Habitat in Cibis corruptis." RCN: 8535.
Type not designated.
Original material: [icon] in Micheli, Nov. Pl. Gen.: 212, t. 91, f. 3. 1729.
Current name: Botrytis ramosa Pers. ( Sclerotiniaceae).
Note: Martin (in Iowa Stud. Nat. Hist. 20(8): 29. 1966) treated Micheli’s t. 96, f. 2 as the type of Spumaria Pers. and, apparently, the type of M. crustaceus L. However, this figure was not cited in its protologue so it is not original material for the name. Hawksworth & al. (in Taxon 25: 666. 1976) considered the name to be a nomen dubium for a Botrytis- like fungus, the specific and generic identities of which were uncertain.
