Current name: Mespilus germanica L. ( Rosaceae).

Note: Phipps’ type statement erroneously cited "Herb. Linn. No. 696.1" (a member of the Winteraceae), a typographical error for "Herb. Linn. No. 646.1" (clearly annotated as Mespilus germanica by Linnaeus).
