Generitype of Myosotis Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 127. 1929).

Note: Although Wade (in J. Bot. 80: 128. 1944) indicated Clifford material (BM), identifiable with M. palustris (L.) Hill as lectotype, there have been difficulties with the application of the name, which has been used in the sense of both M. arvensis (L.) Hill and M. palustris, and occasionally discarded as a nomen ambiguum. Verberne (in Acta Bot. Neerl. 8: 330-337. 1959) and Holub (in Preslia 38: 130-136. 1966) have both discussed the matter at length. It may be that a formal proposal (for conservation or rejection) will be needed to resolve this problem.
