Momordica trifolia Linnaeus, Herbarium Amboinense: 24. 1754.
["Habitat in India."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1434 (1763). RCN: 7319.
Lectotype (Merrill, Interpret. Rumph. Herb. Amb.: 33, 494. 1917): [icon] "Poppya silvestris" in Rumphius, Herb. Amboin. 5: 414, t. 152, f. 2. 1747.
Current name: Momordica trifolia L. ( Cucurbitaceae).
Note: Jeffrey & de Wilde (in Taxon 48: 599. 1999) proposed the name for rejection as its type, a Rumphius plate, is identifiable as the widespread M. cochinchinensis (Lour.) Spreng. However, the proposal was later withdrawn by its authors - see Brummitt (in Taxon 53: 814. 2004).
