Type locality. Bocas del Toro, Panama.

Bionomics. Females of Sa. tarsopus have been collected using human landing catch mostly in the canopy of the Atlantic Forest (Guimarães et al. 1985). The immature stages were collected with sapucaia nut oviposition traps (Vieira et al. 2020).

Arbovirus infection records. None.

Occurrence in Brazil. States of Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo (Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Forattini et al. 1968, 1986a, 1986b, 1973; Guimarães & Arlé 1984; Guimarães et al. 1985; Guimarães & Victório 1986; Guimarães et al. 1987; Camargo-Neves et al. 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005; Pinto et al. 2009; Aragão et al. 2010; Confalonieri & Costa Neto 2012).

Occurrence in other countries. Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama (Wilkerson et al. 2021).
