Type locality. Cantareira, São Paulo, Brazil.

Bionomics. Females of Sa. melanonymphe have been collected using avian-baited traps placed at nearly 9 m above ground (Davis 1944a). Immature stages of this species develop in cut or broken bamboo internodes. Larvae of Sa. melanonymphe were collected in a receptacle in association with those of Sa. aurescens and a species of Toxorhynchithes (Lynchiella) (Heinemann & Belkin 1979).

Arbovirus infection records. None.

Occurrence in Brazil. States of Amazonas, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo (Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Lozovei 2001; Zequi & Lopes 2001; Marcondes & Mafra 2003; Cardoso et al. 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005; Marcondes et al. 2006; Abreu et al. 2019; Stanzani et al. 2023).

Occurrence in other countries. Argentina (Wilkerson et al. 2021).
