cyaneus (Fabricius, 1805)
(subgenus Sabethes)
Type locality. Cayenne, French Guiana.
Bionomics. Immature stages of Sa. cyaneus primarily develop in water in tree holes and bamboo internodes (Shannon 1931). They have been collected mainly in a bamboo trap with a small hole (Galindo et al. 1951) and natural sapucaia nut oviposition traps (Santos et al. 2020). The larvae are facultative predators (Galindo et al. 1951; Galindo 1957, 1958; Hancock et al. 2022). Adults have been collected in forest canopy between 8 and 30 m above ground level (Ferreira Neto et al. 1970; Pinto et al. 2009).
Arbovirus infection records. Sabethes cyaneus has been found infected with YFV in Brazil (Vasconcelos 2003). The species exhibited low competence during experimental transmission of ZKV (Karna et al. 2018).
