Type locality (corrected). Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.
Bionomics. Adults of Sa. amazonicus has been collected at various localities in the Amazon rainforest biome of northern and midwestern Brazil (Gordon & Evans 1922; Edwards 1928), and have been collected in the forest canopy at heights above ground level between 10‒20 m (Ferreira Neto et al. 1970; Dégallier et al. 1998). One female was captured in a Surinamese forest biting during the daytime (Bonne & Bonne-Wepster 1925).

Occurrence in Brazil, States of Amazonas, Amapá, Maranhão, Mato Grosso and Pará (Bonne & Bonne-Wepster 1925; Edwards 1928; Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Ferreira Neto et al. 1970; Xavier & Mattos 1989; Dégallier et al. 1998; Hutchings et al. 2005, 2011, 2013; Souto et al. 2011).
Occurrence in other countries. Ecuador, Peru and Suriname (Wilkerson et al. 2021).
