Remarks: Nearctic records of this species need confirmation. Northern European populations of H. litoralis differ from partly sympatric H. concolor in having additional setae on the fifth abdominal segment (Fjellberg 1998), whereas the specimens from NS described by Christiansen & Bellinger (1980) are characterized by the usual chaetotaxy of this tergum (see Christiansen & Bellinger 1980, Fig. 85 A, p. 124).

General distribution: Europe and Nearctic (?).
