Remarks: Christiansen & Bellinger (1980, p. 836) considered there to be “no valid Nearctic records”. This is supported by modern genetic studies showing the presence of two distinct cryptic lines within this “species” in the Nearctic (Porco et al. 2014).

General distribution: almost cosmopolitan, but many similar forms may be involved on the global scale (Jordana 2012).
