Discussion: Hershkovitz (1992 a) restricted the Didelphinae to the genera Chironectes, Didelphis, Philander, and Lutreolina . Hershkovitz (1997) further restricted the Didelphinae by establishing Chironectinae and Lutreolininae for Chironectes and Lutreolina, respectively.
