Lectotype (Rabeler in Cafferty & Jarvis in Taxon 53: 1053. 2004): Clayton 423 (BM-000051556).

Current name: Silene virginica L. ( Caryophyllaceae).

Note: Although Howard & Staples (in J. Arnold Arbor. 64: 521. 1983) noted the existence of material in LINN, they did not indicate any of it as the type.
