Senecio pseudochina Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 867. 1753.

"Habitat in India ." RCN: 6274.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. A. van Royen No. 900.288-368 (L); [icon] in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 2: 345, t. 258, f. 335. 1732.

Current name: Gynura pseudochina (L.) DC. ( Asteraceae).

Note: Although a few authors have commented on the original material for the name, none seems to have made a formal typification. Davies (in Kew Bull. 33: 638. 1979; 35: 364. 1980) indicated both "Royen 164 (L)" and the cited Dillenius plate (t. 258, f. 335) as syntypes (followed by Jeffrey in Kew Bull. 41: 930. 1986). Davies (in Kew Bull. 35: 733. 1981) also stated that the name was "based on Senecio madraspatanus rapifolio Dill." but none of these statements effects a formal typification.
