Generitype of Samolus Linnaeus.

Current name: Samolus valerandi L. ( Primulaceae).

Note: Although Taylor (in Hubbard & Milne-Redhead, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Primulaceae: 19. 1958) indicated Clifford material (BM) as a syntype (which is not, by definition, the sole type of a name, unlike a holotype, lectotype or neotype), this statement is not accepted as correctable to lectotype under Art. 9.8. Dyer (in Dyer & al., Fl. Southern Africa 26: 10. 1963) indicated 225.1 (LINN) as type, but this collection lacks the relevant Species Plantarum number (i.e. “1”) and was a post-1753 addition to the herbarium, and is not original material for the name. Bizzarri (in Webbia 24: 687-688. 1970) discussed the typification of the name in some detail but did not designate a type.
