Sophora heptaphylla Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 373. 1753.

"Habitat in India ." RCN: 2937.

Lectotype (Polhill in Kew Bull. 25: 268. 1971; Rudd in Dassanayake & Fosberg, Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 7: 235. 1991): Herb. Hermann 2: 8, No. 164 (BM-000594571) .

Current name: Aganope heptaphylla (L.) Polhill ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Polhill (in Kew Bull. 25: 268. 1971), possibly following Merrill (Interpret. Rumph. Herb. Amb.: 273. 1917) who stated "the type is Fl. Zeyl. 104, and Hermann’s specimen on which it is based is Derris sinuata ", indicated a specimen in Herb. Hermann that he had not seen, as the holotype. There is material in vol. 2: 8 and 2: 80, almost certainly from a single gathering. Polhill is accepted as having typified the name first, with Rudd subsequently restricting the choice to the material on p. 8.
