Current name: Stapelia hirsuta L. ( Asclepiadaceae).

Note: Stapelia hirsuta, with the type designated by Brown, was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 570. 1992). This was approved by the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 44: 612. 1995) and ratified by the General Committee (in Taxon 48: 374. 1999). However, subsequent Codes do not list Herb. Clifford: 77, Stapelia 2 (BM) as the generitype, so the specimen remains a lectotype, rather than a conserved type.
