Current name: Sonchus asper (L.) Hill subsp. asper ( Asteraceae).

Note: Boulos (in Bot. Not. 126: 164. 1973) and a number of later authors all treated Herb. Linn. No. 949.8 (LINN) as the type, but this sheet is unannotated as to species by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name. Boulos therefore superseded this choice with a new typification in 1998.
