H. chengi Sharma, 1986
Type host. Unidentified “avian host”.
Type locality. Meerut District, Uttar Pradesh, India; specific type locality unknown.
Remarks. The original description does not include critical information (i.e. location of the genital pore relative to the pharynx, length of cirrus sac, posterior disposition of the vitelline fields) that is necessary to definitively place this species in a genus and it is poorly illustrated; however, the unusually small eggs (80– 90 x 30–50) in this species allowed its tentative placement in our key to the species assigned to Haematotrephus . The pretesticular ovary forms a triangle with the oblique testes (Haematotrephinae) and based on the author’s generic placement of this species in Haematotrephus, we must assume the genital pore is postpharyngeal and the vitelline fields are not confluent posteriorly. Until there is a confirmation of these characteristics, we recommend that species of Haematotrephus, Neohaematotrephus and Uvitellina be considered in any comparison of specimens similar to this species. Rudimentary oral sucker present—Sharma (1986).
