Promptenovum vanbenedeni Witenberg, 1923 — Type and only species

Type host. Not identified by van Beneden (1858).

Type locality. Europe; specific type locality unknown.

Additional locality. Italy—Bona et al. (1995).

Remarks. Van Beneden (1858) provided a minimal description and an illustration which did not clearly show the distribution of the vitelline fields of Monostoma mutabile Zeder ” (= P. vanbenedeni) from material labeled “ Monostoma mutabile Zeder ”. Kanev et al. (2002a) provided an original illustration of this species. Witenberg (1923) erected Promptenovum Witenberg, 1923 to accommodate Promptenovum vanbenedeni, but he did not provide any additional descriptive information for this species. No oral or ventral sucker described—van Beneden (1858); Witenberg (1923).
