M. distomatum (Morishita, 1924)
Type host. Sparkling or common pheasant, Phasianus colchicus Linnaeus (Syn. Phasianus scintillans Gould) ( Galliformes: Phasianidae).
Type locality. Japan; specific type locality unknown—Uchida et al. (1991).
Additional host. Copper pheasant, Syrmaticus soemmerringii (Temminck) (Syn. Phasianus soemmerringii Temminck) ( Galliformes: Phasianidae)— Uchida et al. (1991).
Remarks. This species was originally described as Cyclocoelum distomatum Morishita, 1924 . Morishita (1924) indicated that the oral sucker was “nearly as large as the pharynx”; however, Figs. 6 and 7 show it to be somewhat wider. It was considered to be a synonym of M. vagum (Morishita, 1924) by Joyeux & Baer (1927) and Dubois (1959). Yamaguti (1971) did not support the synonymies of Joyeux & Baer (1927) and Dubois (1959). Rudimentary oral and ventral sucker present—Morishita (1924).
