25. Sundevall’s Jird, Meriones (Pallasiomys) crassus Sundevall, 1842

Subspecies: M. c. charon Thomas, 1919 .

Distribution: Uncommon but has a wide distribution along the Euphrates Valley and Mesopotamia (Fig. 31).

Previous records: Bir Umm Uqairiba (Kock et al. 1994), es-Salihiyye, Kal’at er-Rahba, Tell Sheikh Hamad, Tell Al-Buderi and 8 km west of Lake Al-Khatuniyah (Buhayrat Al Khatuniyah), Halabiyyeh and Katir Magara (Kock 1998), and ar- Rasafah (Shehab et al. 2004).
