79. Honey Badger, Mellivora capensis (Schreber, 1776)

Subspecies: M. c. wilsoni Cheesman, 1920 .

Distribution: Status uncertain, seems to be rare; restricted to the higher grounds of Golan Heights (Fig. 86).

Previous records: Golan Heights (Harrison & Bates 1991; Werner 2012).

Remarks: The Honey badger may exist in the Syrian Desert and in the riparian of the Euphrates River in east Syria as it has been recorded in adjacent areas of western Iraq (see Al-Sheikhly et al. 2015), a claim that requires further monitoring.
