9. Formica badia HNS.

F. castaneo-fusca; thorace postice attenuata, abdominis squamula incrassata, abdomine ovato.

Worker. Length 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 lines. Chestnut-brown; head subovate; the eyes ovate, lateral, placed high on the head towards the vertex. Thorax rounded in front, compressed behind; the metathorax obliquely truncated; the scale of the abdomen subcorneal, incrassate, slightly rounded in front and truncate behind. Abdomen oblong-ovate, the apex fuscous.

Hab. Singapore; Borneo (Sarawak).

This species has much the appearance of a species of Polyergus HNS; but the mandibles are toothed at the apex: the palpi I have not examined.
