Type locality: Gulf of Naples, Italy; associated with Hyalinoecia rigida .
Type material: Unknown. None deposited?
Location and author of most recently described material: Channel to north of Quarantine Island, Otago, New Zealand (Rainer 1973), as Polydora dorsomaculata n.sp., synonymized in Blake and Kudenov (1978); no Australian material examined.
Recorded distribution: Australia: Lower east coast, Bass Strait. New Zealand; Indian Ocean; Europe, Ceylon, Sumatra, Japan.
