Discussion: Formerly included in the Talpinae, but Shinohara et al. (2003) convincingly showed that Condylura, Parascalops, Scalopus and Scapanus form a monophyletic clade distinct from the Talpinae, a conclusion reached earlier by Thomas (1912 c).
