Distribution: Nyiru, Voi, Tsavo (SE Kenya); Usambara Mtns (Tanzania).

Conservation: IUCN – Vulnerable.

Discussion: Status uncertain; probably related to hirta . Not to be confused with Crocidura xanthippe Bate, 1937 (replaced by C. samaritana Bate, 1937), a Pleistocene shrew from Palestine.
