Sorex (Sorex) arunchi Lapini and Testone 1998, Gortania, 20: 246.

Type Locality: NE Italy, Udine Prov., Muzzana del Turgnano, Bosco Baredi-Selva di Arvonchi.

Vernacular Names: Udine Shrew.

Distribution: NE Italy, Udine Province, and probably adjacent Slovenia (Lapini and Testone, 1998).

Discussion: Subgenus Sorex, S. araneus group. Possibly related or conspecific with Sorex antinorii (Brünner et al., 2002 a), although its karyotype has not been studied yet. Genetically well distinguished from araneus (Lapini et al., 2001), but morphological differences between both species weak (Breda, 2002).
