Type material: Syntypes, NHMUK 20150022 (1) [Specimen label states 1915.1.4.130–132, but does not match register entry, so re-registered January 2015], NMNZ M.22441 (2) (dry shell material).

Label details: ‘Otaki Gorge, N. Island, N.Z.’

Type locality: ‘ Otaki Gorge, about 47 miles north of Wellington, New Zealand’ (Sykes 1895: 218) .

Remarks: The type material of Endodonta (Charopa) prestoni was collected by the British conchologist Hugh Preston, during a trip to New Zealand in the late 1800s. One specimen was sent to Ernest Sykes at the British Museum, and is mounted on a board with specimens of ‘ Charopa bianca’ (NHMUK 20150023) and ‘ Charopa corniculum’ (NHMUK 20150024).

Current Taxonomy: Listed as Climocella prestoni (Sykes, 1895) by Goulstone (1995: 63) and Spencer et al. (2009).

Distribution: New Zealand; central and southern North Island, northern South Island (Suter 1913b; Powell 1979; NMNZ collection records).
