Type material: A specimen in the Mousson collection, ZMZ 501231, ex Museum Cuming, is interpreted here as a probable syntype of Helix phlogophora . No type material of H. plogophora was found in NHMUK collections in 2018.
Label details: ‘ Th. phlogophora Pfr. 10 ( multilimbata Jacq.), N. Seland (Cuming. 55)’, in Mousson’s handwriting.
Type locality: ‘Locality unknown’ (Pfeiffer 1850: 127), ‘Nova Seelandia’ (Pfeiffer 1853a: 34).

Remarks: Original description based on one or more specimens in Cuming collection (Pfeiffer 1850: 127). Conspecific with Vitrina zebra Guillou, 1842, Helix multilimbata Hombron & Jacquinot, 1847, and Helix flammigera Pfeiffer, 1854 (e.g., Martens 1873: 12; Hutton 1884b: 198; Hedley & Suter 1893: 643; Suter 1913b: 680; Powell 1979: 314).
Current Taxonomy: Treated as a junior synonym of Vitrina zebra Le Guillou, 1842 by Hutton (1884b: 198), Iredale (1915: 480) and Powell (1979: 314).
