Remarks: The synonym Helix theta Pfeiffer, listed by Reeve (1852 [in 1851–1854]), is a nomen nudum. Historically there was confusion over the identity of Helix anguiculus Reeve, 1852, as noted by Climo (1983: 157; 1993: 16), with Reeve’s name having been mis-applied to a species with a wide distribution in the New Zealand region (e.g., Suter 1913b: 701, pl. 27, fig. 16; Climo 1970a: 288, fig. 8C, D, pl. 3B; Powell 1979: 303). Climo (1983, 1993) noted that the name Charopa pseudanguicula Iredale, 1913, based on Kermadec Islands material, was available for the latter species.

Current Taxonomy: Listed as Cavellia anguicula (Reeve, 1852) by Solem et al. (1981: 472, 480), Climo (1983: 157, 1993: 16) and Spencer et al. (2009: 215).

Distribution: New Zealand; central and southern North Island, northern South Island (Mahlfeld 2005: fig. 100; NMNZ collection records).
