Remarks: The type material was collected on Stephens Island (Takapourewa) in 1896–1897 by the zoologist Hugo Schauinsland. As noted by Barker (2018: 235–236), the species name was introduced and a brief description given by Plate (1897: 141), followed by a more detailed description and illustrations by Plate (1898).

Current Taxonomy: Listed as Pseudaneitea schauinslandi (Plate, 1897) by Powell (1937: 92, 1979: 301), Burton (1963: 66; 1980: 180) and Spencer et al. (2009: 215).

Distribution: New Zealand; Stephens Island and Marlborough Sounds (Plate 1897; Suter 1913b; Burton 1963; Powell 1979).
