Type locality: ‘south side of Cook’s Straits, New Zealand’ (Cockerell 1891b: 218 b).
Remarks: Original description based on a single specimen (Cockerell 1891: 218b). Neojanella dubia is the type species of Neojanella Cockerell, 1891, by monotypy. Neojanella Cockerell, 1891 was listed as a junior synonym of Athoracophorus Gould, 1852 by Suter (1909c: 321, 1913b: 790), Burton (1963: 50) and Powell (1979: 298).
Current Taxonomy: Treated as a subjective junior synonym of Limax bitentaculatus Quoy & Gaimard, 1832 by Suter (1909c: 322, 1913b: 792), Burton (1963: 51) and Powell (1979: 298), albeit without examination of type material (see Barker 2018: 222).
