Banisteriopsis adenopoda (A. Jussieu) B. Gates (1982: 110)
Basionym: Banisteria adenopoda A. Jussieu (1832: 40) .
Type:— BRAZIL. Ad margines sylvarum prope pagum Freguesia de N. S. da Escadenha in Provincea de Sancti Pauli, Aprili florebat. Lectotype (designated here): MPU [MPU020068, photo!]. Figure 1.
Notes:—Although Jussieu (1832) [1833] did not refer to the collector’s number, he cited the collecting locality after the description. Gates (1982) pointed to the Saint Hilaire Catal. D 716 collection at P herbarium. Three specimens in P constitute this collection: P 02428890, P 02428891, P 02428892. There are labels on specimens P 02428891 and P 02428892 identifying them as isotypes and P 02438890 as “type”. However, there is a specimen at MPU (originally from the Cambessèdes herbarium) with a label with the collecting locality (Fig 1). The annotation is in Jussieu’s handwriting. Volumes 2 and 3 of Saint-Hilaire’s “Flora brasiliae meridionalis” were co-authored by Cambessèdes and Jussieu, who thus had access to Saint-Hilaire’s records (the “catalogues”) and therefore to locality information. This specimen is here designated as the lectotype.
