Achillea santolina Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 896. 1753.
"Habitat in Oriente." RCN: 6490.
Lectotype (Humphries in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 14. 1993): Herb. Clifford: 412, Achillea 3 (BM-000647152) .
Current name: Achillea santolina L. ( Asteraceae).
Note: This was treated as the generitype of Achillea by Britton & Brown, Ill. Fl. N. U. S., ed. 2, 3: 514. 1913 (see McNeill & al. in Taxon 36: 356. 1987). However, under Art. 10.5, Ex. 7 (a voted example) of the Vienna Code, this is a type choice made under the American Code and is to be replaced under Art. 10.5b by Green’s choice (Prop. Brit. Bot.: 182. 1929) of A. millefolium .
See extensive discussion by Valant-Vetschera in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 121: 159-164 (1996), who also illustrated the type (as f. 1). She concludes that the name is synonymous with what has been called A. tenuifolia Lam.
