Anthericum alooides Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 311. 1753.

"Habitat ad Cap. b. Spei." RCN: 2450.

Type not designated.

Original material: [icon] in Dillenius, Hort. Eltham. 2: 312, t. 232, f. 299. 1732.

Current name: Bulbine alooides (L.) Willd. ( Liliaceae / Asphodelaceae).

Note: Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 129. 1983) stated that the Dillenius plate "might serve as the type", but his uncertainty prevents this being accepted as a formal typification. Kativu (in Kirkia 16: 48. 1997) indicated Clifford material (BM) as the holotype but this appears to be a Gronovius collection now excluded from the Clifford herbarium, and not original material for the name. Subsequently, Van Jaarsveld & Forster (in Eggli, Ill. Handb. Succ. Pl., Monocots: 233. 2001) indicated the Dillenius plate as type but as this choice was published after 1 Jan 2001, their omission of the phrase "designated here" or an equivalent (Art. 7.11) means that the choice is not effective.
