Alchemilla vulgaris Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 123. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae pascuis." RCN: 1015.
Lectotype (Purohit & Panigrahi, Fam. Rosaceae India 1: 185. 1991): Herb. Linn. No. 166.1 (LINN) .
Generitype of Alchemilla Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 126. 1929).
Current name: Alchemilla vulgaris L. ( Rosaceae).
Note: Fröhner (in Gleditschia 14: 51-67. 1986) discussed the typification of this name in some detail, but appeared to select an ineligible David van Royen (see his f. 4) specimen (sheet 908. 190-1281, L) as lectotype. Purohit & Panigrahi (in Fam. Rosaceae India 1: 185. 1991) explicitly treated 166.1 (LINN) as the type and, recognising that it is a mixture of two taxa, called it a nomen confusum. They say they are using it as a “neutral” aggregate name. Many authors have treated A. vulgaris as a nomen ambiguum.
