Amaranthus polygonoides Linnaeus, Plantarum Jamaicensium Pugillus: 27. 1759.
["Habitat in Jamaica, Zeylona."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1405 (1763). RCN: 7179.
Lectotype (Hendrickson in Sida 18: 797. 1999): [icon] "Blitum polygonoides viride seu ex viridi et albo variegatum polyanthos" in Sloane, Voy. Jamaica 1: 144, t. 92, f. 2. 1707. - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 2: 116 (BM-SL) .
Current name: Amaranthus polygonoides L. ( Amaranthaceae).
Note: Kellogg (in Howard, Fl. Lesser Antilles 4: 160. 1985) indicated voucher material in Herb. Sloane as the type but this was not seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name. It is, however, typotype material for the plate subsequently designated as lectotype by Hendrickson.
