Andropogon fasciculatus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1047. 1753.

"Habitat in Indiis." RCN: 7562.

Lectotype (Henrard in Blumea 3: 454. 1940; Cope in Cafferty & al. in Taxon 49: 245. 2000): Herb. Linn. No. 1211.27, lower central specimen (LINN) .

Current name: Microstegium fasciculatum (L.) Henrard ( Poaceae).

Note: Specific epithet spelled “fasciculatum” in the protologue.

Munro (in J. Proc. Linn. Soc., Bot. 6: 53. 1862) noted the existence of two species associated with this name in LINN, and Hitchcock (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 126. 1908) provided an extensive discussion. However, Henrard (in Blumea 3: 454. 1940) clearly accepted the sheet now numbered as 1211.27 (LINN) as the type, though the material it bears is a mixed collection. Henrard’s type choice was therefore restricted by Cope to the lower, central specimen, in accordance with Art. 9.15.
