Aeschynomene indica Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 713. 1753.

"Habitat in India ." RCN: 5490.

Lectotype (Verdcourt in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Leguminosae 3: 373. 1971): [icon] “Neli-tali” in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 9: 31, t. 18. 1689.

Current name: Aeschynomene indica L. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Although Rudd (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 32: 59. 1955) says that the type specimen is unknown and that Rheede’s 9: t. 18 “… presumably, represents the type", her uncertainty makes this difficult to accept as a formal typification, but Verdcourt clearly formalised this choice.
