Aeschynomene pumila Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1061. 1763.
"Habitat in India ." RCN: 5492.
Type not designated.
Original material: [icon] in Rheede, Hort. Malab. 9: 35, t. 20. 1689.
Current name: Aeschynomene indica L. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).
Note: Rudd (in Dassanayake & Fosberg, Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 7: 163. 1991) indicated "Hermann s.n. (BM)" as lectotype but it has not proved possible to locate this specimen in either Hermann’s Ceylonese herbarium, or among his specimens in Herb. Sloane. She has treated the name as a synonym of A. indica L. The cited Rheede plate is identifiable as Neptunia prostrata (Lam.) Baill. (see Nicolson & al., Interpret. Van Rheede’s Hort. Malab.: 139. 1988).
