Andropogon polydactylos Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1483. 1763, nom. illeg.
"Habitat in Jamaica." RCN: 7563.
Replaced synonym: Andropogon barbatus L. (1759) .
Lectotype (Hitchcock in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 124. 1908): Browne, Herb. Linn. No. 1211.28 (LINN) .
Current name: Chloris dandyana C.D. Adams ( Poaceae).
Note: Specific epithet spelled “polydactylon” in the protologue. The protologue of this name included an explicit reference to the earlier Amoen. Acad. 5: 412 (1760) (a reprint of Pl. Jamaic. Pugillus) where A barbatus L. (1759) was the binomial used. Andropogon polydactylos is therefore illegitimate.
