Aeschynomene sesban Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 714. 1753.

"Habitat in Aegypti sepibus." RCN: 5491.

Lectotype (Gillett in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Leguminosae 3: 339. 1971): Hasselquist, Herb. Linn. No. 922.12 (LINN) .

Current name: Sesbania sesban (L.) Merr. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Although Fawcett & Rendle (Fl. Jamaica 4: 23. 1920) indicated material in LINN as type, they did not distinguish between sheets 922.11, 922.12 and 922.13 (which are evidently not part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply). Cufodontis (in Bull. Jard. Bot. État Bruxelles 25: 288. 1955) stated "Typus: Hasselquist (in Aegypti sepibus)" but did not indicate a specimen. Gillett (in Kew Bull. 17: 112. 1963) wrongly indicated 922.13 (LINN), a collection from König that was not received by Linnaeus until 1777, as the holotype.
