Allium rotundum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 1: 423. 1762.

"Habitat in Europa australiori." RCN: 2347.

Type not designated.

Original material: Herb. Burser III: 104 (UPS); [icon] in Micheli, Nov. Pl. Gen.: 25, t. 24, f. 1. 1729.

Current name: Allium rotundum L. ( Liliaceae / Alliaceae).

Note: De Wilde-Duyfjes (in Taxon 22: 80. 1973) treated a Haller collection (P) as the lectotype but this collection was not studied by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name. Pastor & Valdés (Revis. Gen. Allium Penins. Iber. Islas Baleares: 53-54. 1983) consequently rejected this choice and discussed the other original elements but failed to find one that would make a satisfactory type as they appear to belong to other taxa.
