Generitype of Aloe Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 146. 1929).

Current name: Aloe perfoliata L. ( Liliaceae / Asphodelaceae).

Note: The lectotype, while clearly an Aloe, apparently cannot be identified to species. Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 124. 1983) provided current names for each unnamed variety listed in the original description, as did Newton (in Eggli, Ill. Handb. Succ. Pl., Monocots: 133. 2001). The latter appears to treat this name as synonymous with A. ferox Mill.
