Avena nuda Linnaeus, Demonstr. Pl. Horto Upsaliensi: 3. 1753.

["Habitat - - - - –”] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 118 (1762). RCN: 670.

Lectotype (Cope in Cafferty & al. in Taxon 49: 247. 2000): Herb. Linn. No. 95.8 (LINN) .

Current name: Avena nuda L. ( Poaceae).

Note: Although Kerguélen (in Lejeunia, n.s., 75: 88. 1975) stated "Type: …LINN”, this is not accepted as a formal typification, for the reasons explained by Cafferty & al. (in Taxon 49: 240. 2000). Baum (in Taxon 23: 581. 1974; Oats Wild & Cult.: 184. 1977) designated a specimen from the Stockholm herbarium as lectotype. However this material is unannotated by Linnaeus and therefore ineligible for designation as the type, and the choice was consequently rejected by Cope.
