Type:— MEXICO: s. loc., ex hort., March 1914, C.A. Purpus s.n. (lectotype, designated here: AMES 24882 fragment!, AMES 83022 microscope slide).
Notes: — Schlechter (1914) described N. angustilancea based on a plant sampled in Mexico by Purpus. The type specimen was destroyed in the B herbarium during World War II (Butzin 1978, 1980); however, a fragment of the holotype composed of flowers is preserved in the AMES herbarium (Salazar Chavez 1994), so these are designated as lectotypes. One of the samples is conserved as an exsiccate and another as a microscope slide, both considered as separate forms (Turland et al. 2018: Art. 8.3).
