Current name: Basella alba L. ( Basellaceae).

Note: Verdcourt (in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Basellaceae: 2. 1968), followed by many other authors, treated a Thran polynomial as the type but this is contrary to Art. 8.1. In the absence of any original material, Sidwell subsequently chose a neotype.
