Type species. Scaphotettix freytagi Viraktamath & Mohan, 1993 .

Diagnosis. Crown with brown to black arcuate marginal band anteriorly, and with arcuate transverse band between eyes. Pronotum with anterior and posterior submarginal transverse bands. Forewing brownish, with white spots; veins dark brown; vein R with three branches, all reflexed toward costal margin; outer anteapical cell tapered distally. Head including eyes either as wide as or slightly narrower than pronotum; crown longer medially than next to eyes, shorter than width between eyes, acutely angled or obtusely rounded apically; frontoclypeus widened dorsally; anteclypeus slightly widened apically.

Male genitalia. Pygofer lobe with or without process on caudal margin, macrosetae in tufts or scattered. Subgenital plate triangular, rounded apically, with lateral row of stout setae along with long hair-like setae. Style slen- der, elongate or robust; preapical lobe well expressed. Connective Y-shaped, without paraphysis; stem variable in length. Aedeagal shaft slender, elongate or stouter, wider at base, with or without processes; gonopore apical or subapical, on dorsal side.
